My teammates told me, “It's a misunderstanding if you don’t think of yourself as a woman,” and that triggered me to close my heart. The locker room, where I couldn't come to terms with my own body, was painful. Unfortunately, recalling difficult memories from the 17 years I've been involved in sports is all too easy. I hope that many places involved in sports will evolve into environments where individuals can feel safe and express themselves with confidence.
